Decorating my king of Christmas Tree

A lot of you have asked me to share my best tips to decorate your Christmas tree this season so I put this article together to show you how I decorated our Christmas tree. Follow these simple steps to achieve the Mywellihouse look.

King of Christmas sent me this beautiful 7Ft Prince Flocked Unlit Tree. Their inventory ranges from 6’ to 15’ with a lot of options to chose from. They have all kinds, shapes, and sizes. Besides you can pick between Pre-lit or Unlit. And they even carry Pink and Blue trees!

The interesting part is, I had never owned one of their trees before nor have I done with flocking. So when I opened the box and saw it, I was very impressed with the quality and the way it was done. It is not as messy as you would think and it looks pretty real as well.

Assembling your King Of Christmas

This Christmas tree comes with 3 connecting parts, a tree stand, gloves and a storage tree bag. Each connecting part is labeled with letters A, B and C, which makes the whole assembling process very easy.

To make the decoration process a little bit easier, I lay the Tree skirt before putting all parts together. Also, to achieve a fluffed look I add a bed sheet or blanket under the skirt. (You may skip this part if you are not into fluffy bottoms)

To fluff or not to fluff

Oh, that dreaded and tedious task of fluffing a tree that has been put away for 11 months out of the year! But is it worth it? Absolutely! Twinkle lights and the thought of opening presents by the tree just puts me in the Christmas spirit. Even more if that is a beautiful King of Christmas tree!

This is why I loved the tree they sent me! The quality and material of their tree picks are so easy to manage and work with that it made the whole experience much more enjoyable.

I own a 7.5ft Spruce Tree from Martha Stewart Holiday collection and it is gorgeous but a pain to fluff, sadly. Their tips are meant to have that real look so once you bend those, there is not going back to its original shape. Also, the inside tips are so hard to bend that I can’t use them to secure my ribbon.

How to fluff?

A lot of people believe this process takes a lot of effort but that’s not the case here! Begin fluffing from the bottom to the top and from the inside out. The bottom branches split into two at the end so make sure you separate those out, and fluff each tip. After you fluffed the first part, repeat the same process with the other two, until you get to the top of your tree.

Dress code: Ribbon

My favorite part of decorating my Christmas tree is definitely adding some fancy ribbon. There are a lot of styles, prints and sizes you can use to make your tree unique.

Personally, I always recommend not to cut your ribbons so it can be used time and time again. But if you don’t feel capable of using my preferred method, you can pre-cut pieces of 18 inches or so and place in loops around your tree.

For my 7ft tree I used one roll of 4″ x 10 yards but I suggest to get at least 9 feet per foot of tree. So for a 7ft tree you should get about 2 rolls of 10 yards each.

Pro tip for loops around your tree

Begin tying about 3 loops together with floral wire and attach it to the top of the tree. If you want to do a bow-like topper then make around 8 loops of the same size and then tie together before you add to the top.

Working your way down, alternate between big and small loops, bringing your ribbon out towards your body, holding the fabric firm and steady. Bring it back in, making sure it maintains that curved shaped from the wired edges and then secure in with an inside tree pick. By doing this, your ribbon will look like is coming in and out of the tree naturally, just like an Ivy plant would do.

Repeat this in-and-out looping pattern all the way to the bottom of the tree, stepping back every few loops to make sure it’s going the way you want to. Don’t be afraid to go back and undo some loops to get it exactly how you want it.

Ribbon dresses up a tree beautifully however, the wrong type can flop your design. My number 1 tip is to always get wired ribbon, unless your design calls for lose strands like the one shown in the gallery at the end of this article.

Another thing I like to do is using different sizes and fabrics to add texture and elegance. For example, I did a 4″ solid color ribbon with a 2.5″ sheer wired ribbon.

Ornaments and tree picks

Ornaments

After you have selected the theme of your Christmas Tree, you can start planning your ornament selections. My rule of tree is: oversized, statement pieces and solid medium to small size ornaments.

Always maximize the amount of ornaments. Opt for the big sets that come with different sizes and colors, like the ones you could find on amazon. Also, stores like the Dollar Tree and Ross Dress for less, have a great selection of glass and shatterproof ornaments at reasonable prices. So shop around and look for diversity! It goes without saying, ornaments can get very expensive and if you are going for a full looking tree, you’d needing lots of them.

One of my tricks is to add clusters of ornaments to my tree. To replicate this, simply take about 10 ornaments of a medium to small size and tie them together with curling ribbon. Hang it on your tree and try to hide the ribbon so no part of it is seen. Unless, you want to show case it.

Tree picks

To achieve a sophisticated and elegant look, I love “garnishing” my tree with long and elaborated floral picks. First, place a few around your tree without a specific order. Then add the rest and make them “kiss” the floor, like a waterfall. Doing so, makes your design look professional and custom.

I decorated my King of Christmas with a total of 6 picks, because a little goes a long way. However, if your tree is bigger than 7 Ft by all means, it will need more than that. In other words, the bigger the tree the more items it will need. Also, if your tree does not sit in a corner it will most likely need to be decorated all around.

To complete your Christmas look, a nice tree skirt will upscale your design. Another great alternative in exchange for a tree skirt, is using a throw blanket or fabric tulle. Remember, there is no right or wrong when decorating.
