Get this ready before making your Churros dough

1. Fit piping bag with star tip. The one i used was too small (only star tip I had available at the moment) so make sure you get one big enough so those characteristics ridges show through.

2. Let’s make the mixture these yummy churros will be coated with after frying. For that we will need to whisk 1 tablespoon of Cinnamon, 1/2 cup Sugar, and 1 cup Brown Sugar in a shallow dish. A lot of recipes call for refined Sugar only, but I decided to mix it with Brown sugar and it tastes so good this way, too!

Homemade Holiday Churros Dough preparation

In a sauce pan over medium heat bring milk, butter, salt, 1 tablespoon Brown sugar, and ½ cup water to a simmer. Now, add in flour and mix quickly using a wooden spoon for about 30 seconds until your dough is formed. Remove sauce pan from heat as soon as your dough is formed and let it cool for 5 minutes.

After your dough cools down, add eggs one at a time, making sure to incorporate well before adding the next. You may use a KitchenAid stand mixer on low speed or a wooden spoon. The later will take longer to form your dough, but it is totally doable. That’s what I used and just requires a little bit of elbow grease.

Spoon your dough into your prepared piping bag and get ready to fry your dough!

Heat vegetable oil in a sauce pot to medium heat. Begin to pipe out about 4 to 5 inches of dough and cut off with a knife quickly. If your star tip is too small, your dough might curl when added to the oil to be fried. This is exactly what happened to me but they all came out ok anyway! If the tip is larger then the dough will come out and fried faster, therefore maintaining its shape.

Cook for about a minute on each side or until lightly golden brown. If necessary adjust cooking temperature to make sure your churros don’t burn. Remove and toss on shallow dish with sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Enjoy!
